Music Lessons
While for many musicians, teaching is a side hustle, for me, teaching fundamental to my work as a musician and community member.
Before teaching guitar and bass, I tutored Math and English, and taught Spanish after school in CPS. While I loved working with kids and tutoring, teaching music integrates deeply with my life as a practicing artist.
My lessons are structured to meet the student’s personal goals and to foster a positive relationship with music. Frequent topics include finding a comfortable playing position, refining one’s technique to play efficiently and nimbly, applying music theory to your favorite songs, learning by ear, and writing your own bass lines and guitar parts.
As a lifelong musician, I empathize with the struggle of self-comparison with others and inadequacy about one’s own skill level. These experiences can detract from one’s ability to enjoy and progress in music. That’s why I encourage students to develop a relationship with music that is both positive and nourishing through positive feedback and the way we practice. I believe that practicing an instrument can be satisfying, that following your curiosity without judgment is the key to finding your voice, and that you can simultaneously strive to improve while being happy with your progress.
I look forward to accompanying you on your musical journey!
